Two New Races Join the Classic Friday-Night 3200: Raleigh Relays Preview

Boys 100 Dash

In the boys' race, Cravont Charleston (Mallard Creek, below) appears to be the heavy favorite after running 10.57 in the prelims of the Marvin Ridge Invitational last weekend. Then again, he ran 10.88 in the final of that meet, raising the possibility that the prelim time was wind-aided (no wind gauge was used). This field is full of wild cards, too, like Jonathan Avery (Cary Academy): he has only run two sub-10.90 races, both last summer with significant wind, and he ran 6.41 for the 55 in December but then wasn't able to improve on that time. He could come out with a big race here, although the weather doesn't favor fast times, and he has a history of competing well in tight races. Dylan Peebles (Wakefield) is another variable in this race, after having his greatest success in the longer sprints this past winter. He is almost certainly better now than his 11.20 PR from last year, but how much better when it comes to the 100? Josh Little (East Rowan) ran 10.93 one time in 2014, but his next-best is 11.10. All in all, this field of sprinters leaves us with more questions than answers.
