McKay to Represent ULM at NCAA Track & Field Championships

 

MONROE, La. - Junior Richard McKay will represent the ULM track & field team in the javelin at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships beginning Wednesday on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  It marks the second consecutive year and third time in the last four years that ULM has sent a javelin athlete to the NCAA Championships.

 

McKay, who will be making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships, posted a best throw of 68.50 meters to earn one of 12 spots at the NCAA Championships from the East Region last weekend. The top 12 athletes from the East Region will be joined by the top 12 performers from the West Region at the NCAA Championships.

 

McKay enters with the ninth best throw in country so far this season (73.68 meters).

 

The men's javelin competition is set to begin Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. CT. McKay will be in the first of two flights with the top nine athletes advancing to the finals.
