SPOKANE, Wash.
– The Abilene Christian 2011 cross country season came to a close on a frigid, snowy Saturday afternoon in Eastern Washington where juniors Alyse Goldsmith and Chloe Susset competed against the nation's best Division II runners at the NCAA Championships.

Susset completed the 6K course at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex along the Spokane River with a 59th place time of 22:55.0, while Goldsmith finished in 107th with a mark of 23:49.8. Snow fell throughout the race with the temperature plunging into the mid 20s.

Although Saturday's results were not what the Wildcats were looking for, Woods said today's performances shouldn't overshadow his runners' previous accomplishments, which included a pair of top-five showings at the Lone Star Conference and NCAA South Central Regional Championships.

“Both Chloe and Alyse turned in great individual, A+ seasons for ACU,” he said, “and they're looking forward to experiencing more success in the upcoming track and field seasons. They've each accomplished so much, and I'm proud of them.”

Neely Spence, a senior at Shippensburg (Pa.) won the individual title in 20:53.8. The team trophy was awarded to Augustana (S.D.), which beat Western State by four points, 75-79.
