Lukas Verzbicas, one of the most decorated high school distance runners of all time, was severely injured in a bicycle accident while riding outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado. According to triathlete.com his mother Rasa said, "he is in intensive care with a broken collar bone, blood in his lungs, and will need surgery in his back."
The up-and-coming triathlete is currently in the intensive care unit recovering from the injuries.
Verzbicas dipped under the 4:00 mark to win the prestigious Dream Mile as a senior in New York City. He originally committed to the University of Oregon, but decided to leave midway through his freshman season to pursue triathlons full time.
