Great Outdoor Provision Co. presents the Bonus Featured Meet of Week 15:

Foot Locker South Regional

(Saturday, McAlpine Greenway, Charlotte)

The Meet

The Foot Locker Cross Country Championship dates back to 1979, when it was sponsored by Kinney Shoes, a subsidiary of Woolworth's department stores.  Often thought of as the individual national championship, the meet started out at Balboa Park in San Diego.  Over time, the meet has spent several years in Orlando (most recently 1997-2001) alongside long stretches in San Diego, where it has been since 2002.  The first Foot Locker South Regional was held in 1980 in Atlanta, and it made the permanent move to McAlpine Creek Park in 1982.  Many of the best individuals from 14 states plus Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands will compete, with 10 athletes from each gender advancing to the national meet in two weeks.  When you comine that level of competition with the deep history of both the meet and the course, you get an experience unlike anything else in the Southeast.
