  • Webb parts the wind to a 15:03!

    While the fierce cold and wind at the AAA State Meet affected many of the runners who weren't use to competing in such conditions, South Lakes senior Alan Webb simply parted the wind as he ran a sizzling 15:03 to break his own course record.

  • Western Albemarle boys escapes upset
    Jefferson Forest girls win big

    While one team had to fight for its way to a state championship, the other was able to cruise to win. The Western Albemarle boys, a nationally ranked squad were able to hold off a cinderalla upset bid by Jamestown.

  • Brentsville girls continue winning tradition, while Page County boys start one

    The Brentsville girls continued dominating the Single A ranks in cross country as they won another state title as they placed 7 runners in the top 24 for a team score of 34 points. The Page County boys won their first state title.

    Woodberry Forest boys continue reign of domin

    Brian Doherty of Roanoke Cathlic and Hamil of Collegiate both ran superb races on the challenging Woodberry Forest School 5K course, as they both won state titles at the Independent Schools State Cross Country Meet.

  • Ocean Lakes' Keally and Sekulic win region crowns

    Both race winners at the Eastern Regional Cross Country Meet were from Ocean Lakes. In the boys race, junior Matt Keally won the race, running alone for the most part as he ran the 4th fastest time all-time on the course with his clocking of 15:31.

    Only South Lakes senior Alan Webb can make a 14:57 on Burke Lake Park 2.98 mile course look easy. After last week shattering the Burke Lake Park course record at the Concorde District Meet with a sizzling 13:57, Webb just put into cruise control.

    The Western Albemarle boys and Potomac Falls girls took home team titles at the Region II cross country meet and Bobby Lockhart broke the previous course record with a time of 15:29.

    Rockbridge sophomore John Crews and Jefferson Forest junior Shannon Saunders both won easily at the Region III cross country meet held on Crews' home course at Rockbridge HS as each runners' closest competition was their teammates.

    The Page County boys and Brentsville girls are looking to be the teams to beat the A State Meet next weekend after winning regional titles comfortable out of a traditionally tough region, Region B. Like the Page County boys, the Brentsville girls cruised.
