Eight guys and eight girls were selected to our first ever all-star team of sorts for the 2000 Florida Cross Country Season.

A controversy errupted after the 11/18/2000 race, with Mike Swope\'s upset victory over Sean and John Jefferson. We put to rest the reports of bad sportsmanship on the part of the Jeffersons. Here are pictures from just minutes after the race.

While the fierce cold and wind at the AAA State Meet affected many of the runners who weren't use to competing in such conditions, South Lakes senior Alan Webb simply parted the wind as he ran a sizzling 15:03 to break his own course record.

While one team had to fight for its way to a state championship, the other was able to cruise to win. The Western Albemarle boys, a nationally ranked squad were able to hold off a cinderalla upset bid by Jamestown.

The Brentsville girls continued dominating the Single A ranks in cross country as they won another state title as they placed 7 runners in the top 24 for a team score of 34 points. The Page County boys won their first state title.

Taking advantage of Midlothian senior Austin Smith's knee injury, Thomas Jefferson junior John Piersol upset the defending Central Region champion.

The Region IV Meet was a meet of domination for certain teams and individuals. The Marion boys squad and Lebanon's Amanda Musick were the ones doing the most dominating on the challenging and slow 5K course in Tazewell.

Brian Doherty of Roanoke Cathlic and Hamil of Collegiate both ran superb races on the challenging Woodberry Forest School 5K course, as they both won state titles at the Independent Schools State Cross Country Meet.

Both race winners at the Eastern Regional Cross Country Meet were from Ocean Lakes. In the boys race, junior Matt Keally won the race, running alone for the most part as he ran the 4th fastest time all-time on the course with his clocking of 15:31.

Only South Lakes senior Alan Webb can make a 14:57 on Burke Lake Park 2.98 mile course look easy. After last week shattering the Burke Lake Park course record at the Concorde District Meet with a sizzling 13:57, Webb just put into cruise control.

The Albemarle boys and Brooke Point girls looked impressive in their wins at the Northwestern Region Meet as both squads look to place high at the AAA State Meet.

One can only wonder what kind of race Ruiz will give us next weekend at the AA State Meet after breaking the William & Mary (Eastern State Hospital) course record in a time of 15:03.

The Western Albemarle boys and Potomac Falls girls took home team titles at the Region II cross country meet and Bobby Lockhart broke the previous course record with a time of 15:29.

Rockbridge sophomore John Crews and Jefferson Forest junior Shannon Saunders both won easily at the Region III cross country meet held on Crews' home course at Rockbridge HS as each runners' closest competition was their teammates.

The New Kent boys and girls both won Region A team titles comfortably and have high hopes of state titles next weekend.

The Patrick Henry boys and Galax girls each took home Region C team titles as both squads won fairly easily over the competition.

The Page County boys and Brentsville girls are looking to be the teams to beat the A State Meet next weekend after winning regional titles comfortable out of a traditionally tough region, Region B. Like the Page County boys, the Brentsville girls cruised.
