The 2000 Woodberry Forest Invitational marked the beginning of South Lakes HS senior Alan Webb's final high school cross country season. Webb opened it shattering the course record with his time of 15:18.
At the 2000 Virginia Tech Invitational, a star was born. That star (or runner) was Rockbridge County HS sophomore John Crews. Crews destroyed the talented field as well the course record (15:44 Nick Magnum) as he powered across the line in a time of 15:27
At the 2000 John Handley Invitational, Bobby Lockhart had another lonely race as the John Handley (AA) junior won the boys' race in a time of 15:25 seconds, a minute ahead of the rest of the competition.
Last year, the Christopher Newport Cross Country Invitational was forced to be cancelled due to torrential rains and flooding the weekend of the meet. The meet bounced back from the setback this year though with outstanding performances.
