The Virginia Tech women's cross country team made the most of its BIG EAST swan song, finishing sixth with 144 points at the BIG EAST Championships, held today at historic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Meanwhile, the men's team came in ninth with 250 points in the 12-team field. Notre Dame captured the women's title with 59 points, while Georgetown won the men's race with 29 points.

Much like how eventual Foot Locker All-American Cara Kiernan broke out onto the scene at last year's Independent School State Meet, Cape Henry Collegiate senior Suzanne Ginnow took the field by surprise by winning the girls' individual title in a time of 20:02.36 over the likes of proven runners, Elizabeth Harrison, Ginna Ellis, and Katie Doswell. Meanwhile, Episcopal's Ryan Woodlee, a transfer from Gonzaga (D.C. prep school), broke 17 on the challenging Woodberry Forest 5K course to win in a time of 16:56.62.

Shipley senior Elisa Payne once again dominated the individual competition, touring the Rose Tree layout in 19:57. And Episcopal Academy, helped by placing four in the top nine, won the League Championships over Germantown Academy by 14. It had been eight points closer just five days earler at the Independent Schools State Championships in Mercersburg. (Photo Gallery of the race coming Friday.)

District week came and passed. There were exciting races, there were some upsets and then there was the same old district championship races. It was a week that teams, and individual harriers emerged to show what their made of. All that district week did was skew up the regional forecast.

The Herndon girls and Thomas Jefferson boys squads succesfully defended their team titles while Melissa Dewey of Hayfield and Jefferson's Christo Landry ran to convincing individual victories at the Northern Region Championships held at Burke Lake Park on Thursday, October 30.

Marcie Milner is a freshman at Gardner-Webb University. Milner ran at Aiken High School before graduating in 2003. Milner runs with her sister Michele at GWU and Dreher alumna Katherine Warden. Marcie, Michele, and Katherine head to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Nov. 1.

The Eastern Region meet provided many surprises and heartbreaks. Individually Derrick Robbins (15:27) of Woodside and Natalie Sherbak of Kellam (18:22) claimed the titles while Western Branch Boys and Ocean Lakes girls nabbed the team titles.

Carre Joyce is a senior at Villanova University. Joyce graduated in 2000 from Summerville High School. Carre holds the state meet record in the 1600, set in 1999.

St. Joseph\'s Prep ace Tim O\'Neill ran a solid 16:30 to win the state championship for Independent Schools, going 16:30. But his tem finished second to LaSalle. For the girls, Shipley senior Elisa Payne ran 19:51 for the win. Episcopal Academy won the team title.

David Mock won Steel City in a record time over the Belmont Plateau record holder, and served notice that he is to be considered one of the favorites at next weeks AA State Championships with his 15:31 CR. Central Cambria won the AA title. In AA girls, Sonya Hinish went 19:22 for Bishop Guifoyle, with Central Cambria taking the District title.

Cedar Cliff served notice that their underclassmen-only varsity is ready to challenge for the state title again just two years after taking it all in 2001. In the individual war between Cumberland Valley senior Brian Fuller and Manheim Township sophomore Craig Miller, Fuller went up 5-2 with another less-than-a-second win, 16:05.70-16:06.42. The Wyomissing AA dynasty appears to be humming along nicely, as both the boys and girls won District titles. Janelle Young showed her continuing dominance of D3 competition, going 18:43 to hold off the always-present Kate Papenberg, 2nd in 18:50.

It was deja vu for the boys AA race, as Jed Christiansen, Greenville, won the title just ahead of Harbor Creek\'s Brian Soder and Eisenhower\'s Grant Allen. Eisenhower took the team title in AA. Villa Maria upset the experts by taking the girls AA title by nine over Seneca. Erin Richard must be having too much fun to stop now in her first year of XC (she\'s a senior), going 19:59 to lead her team to a 21 point win over Warren.

Sarah Bowman, arguebably the state\'s most talented female distance runner is ending her cross country season early due to a back injury that has hindered her racing performances this fall due to the extreme pain associated with the injury. The end of her season was confirmed by Fauquier coach Scott Murphy as Bowman will try to rest up and heal in time for the Foot Locker South regional race, but Bowman might be out until the track season.

Senior Dorman Cavalier Ryan Jank finished first at the Spartanburg County Championships on Oct. 25. The event, held at Milliken in Spartanburg hosts the Eye Opener, where Jank earned that title that in early September. Jank ran a time of 16:09 with his closest competitor Chris Harding of Spartanburg coming in 50 seconds later at the county meet.

The Wade Hampton (G) Generals captured their sixth consecutive county title at the Greenville County Championships, held at Eastside on Oct. 25.

Unionville JR Katie Thaeder posts fastest \'03 Lehigh time. Henderson used an old strategy for winning a district title. Start with three guys in the top eight. Even better, make sure you get first and second. Coatesville had six in before Henderson\'s fifth, but they lost by double the score Henderson had beaten them a week before at their league meet - two points.

Hidden Valley senior Jennifer Beury made an amazing comeback race from a stress fracture injury that has forced her to sit out almost the entire cross country season. Beury made her return at the River Ridge District Meet against the #2 ranked runner in the state and #1 ranked runner in AA, Kirsten Hagen of Christiansburg. The two battled it out for the 5K distance at Greenhill Park, but it was Beury who came out on top in this colossal battle with a winning time of 18:25 over Hagen's 18:32. No race rust here as it was a personal best 5K time for the UVA bound Beury.

Eric Mayes, junior of Pensacola Washington has been rising through the ranks each week and surprising people left and right. We caught up to Eric right after his District meet to catch a few words.

CNU senior Aimee Gibbs made history by becoming the first female runner ever to win four consecutive USA South (formerly Dixie) Conference titles. Meanwhile, the remainder of the CNU women's squad took care of business with six other runners earning all-conference honors for total score of 16 points. The men had an equally matching team performance as they perfect scored the meet (15 points) by taking the first nine places and having all but one of their twelve runners come home with All-Conference honors. Leading the Captains' charge once again was the inseparable freshmen duo of Cary Chaffee and Brandon Miles.

The Norfolk State men and Hampton women had strong showings at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro. The Norfolk State men (31 pts) won easily over second place Howard (65 pts) as the Spartans were led by race champion Joseph Terer, who won in a time of 25:23. Duncan Bitole (4th, 25:54), Cleophus Koros (5th, 26:06), and Thomas Hightower (6th, 26:08) also had strong runs for the Kenyan dominated NSU team. Meanwhile, the Hampton finished second overall (41 pts) as they were led by the strong runs by Jitka Vaculikova (2nd, 18:59) and Ebony White (3rd, 19:01) on the Hagan Stone Park 5K course.

The Elk County Catholic girls placed five in the top 14, including 2-3-4 to win the AA title. Freshman Amy Gladd of Moniteau went 20:31 for the individual title.

Trevor Beelsey is a senior at Greenwood High School. Beesley also competes in the steeplechase during the summer months. Trevor is looking to improve on his 2002 10th place state cross-country meet finish.

Stephanie Buffo runs for Dorman High School. Buffo captured the Eye Opener title on Sept. 6 following a tough battle with Wren's Sunday Ford before gaining a lead with one mile left in the race.

Post season action began this past week in South Carolina cross-country. Saturday brings more post season action to the state with runners competing in county meets.

Few could have expected one female individual to dominate the high school state running scene as Midlothian junior Amanda Patterson has so far this cross country season. Patterson is the top ranked runner in the state and has the state\'s fastest 5K time at 18:11. Yesterday at the Dominion District Meet, Patterson shattered the Pocahontas State record previously set less than two weeks prior by pre-season #1 ranked runner Sarah Bowman (18:37) with her winning time of 18:12. Just a year ago, Patterson finished 10th in the same race with a time of 20:20. What a remarkable path of drastic improvement this young lady from Midlothian has taken over the past year.

One point is powerful. It\'s how Allentown Central Catholic started their score thanks to the 18:46 win by Frances Koons. And it\'s how much they beat their league, district and state rivals, Parkland, in another tightly contested race.

Giancometti leads Dallas to AA title. Scranton Prep boys take AA with strong pack. Frosh Sean Craig leads Honesdale to AAA title. One-two-three by two frosh and a soph lead Hazleton to a win.

Amy Kelly led St. Hubert's to the team win with just 19 points, going 18:50, the fastest time of the year at Belmont Plateau.

For a divisional race, this had championship caliber times, as both O'Hara's Steve Hallinan and Prep's Tim O'Neill broke 16 on a course where it may only happen once a year.

It's time to separate the men from the boys. It's time to show everyone what you are made of. It's championship time. Each district is different in its own way. In one district, the Colonial district, there are three elite teams bidding for the championship. In another, the Dominion district, there is the complete dominance of one team. In the other remaining districts, there are tremendous individual runners that are on teams that lack the talented depth they need to be a regional force. The fantastic thing about the Central Region is this: each district has outstanding runners.

Ian MacTavish led Germantown Friends to the league title with his 17:19. Three teammates joined him in the top five. Germantown Friends also won the girls' championships, placing three in the top ten behind the 3rd place 22:38 by Maddy Davis-Hayes. Moorestown (NJ) Friends' Kanya Zillmer won the race in 22:08.

Brian Kennedy was only a few seconds off the course record set by Lex Mercado, taking the win in 17:05 to lead Malvern Prep to the Inter-Ac Title at Chestnut Hill Academy.

Steve Hallinan went 12:30 for the 2.5 mile race. Fast. But Hunterdon Central\'s (NJ) Chris Pannone went 12:22.9, the 10th fastest all-time, bumping Marty Liquori down one, to win.

Allderdice continues to dominate the City League in Pittsburgh.

Oviedo junior Jenny Barringer has certainly proven herself this year: both as the top high school girl in the state and a national contender as well. Jenny won the Track Shack UCF 5 Miler on Saturday in 31:37. Not far behind was 7th Grader Alyssa Burkert-Stevens, who won the flrunners.com Invitational middle school division two weeks ago all alone at 12:44. Burkert-Stevens ran the 5 mile race in 32:47!

Youngsville is one of the top AA teams in the Northwest, and used their league meet to tune-up for the important District 10 meet this week.

Andrew Butler led two teammates across the line before another team crossed, as Upper Darby scored just 25 points. Julia Somers and Adriana Boyle went 1-2 for Haverford.

Jed and Jake Christiansen go 1-4 to lead Greenville. Hickory misses by a point to Slippery Rock in girls race.

Wellsboro girls tally just 26 points behind Caitlin Strahota. Northeast Bradford boys strong, too.

Chris Spooner broke his own course record (by a lot) and led his team to the \"league\" title at the Shikellamy Classic.

Brian Soder and Lindsay Petri 1st as Fairview boys and General McLane girls win titles at Erie County Championships.

Kate Vernon goes 18:08 to lead Gwynedd-Mercy, while Brandon Jones sets pace for nearly perfect Holy Ghost Prep.

Council Rock-North and North Penn staked their claims as states-contenders with divisional team wiins in the Suburban One National Conference Championships.

Page Bridges is unable to compete at the state championships at Fort Jackson on November 8. Bridges is a senior at St. Joseph\'s High school, a private school in Greenville. Even before the public schools begin post season action, Bridges competed at the South Carolina Independent Schools Assocation (SCISA) State Meet today in Columbia at Heathwood Hall.

The Clemson Invitational/SC State Collegiate Championships took place today in Clemson. The fog cleared throughout the day while South Carolina schools battled runners from around the Southeast at the high school and collegiate level. Several former South Carolina high school runners competed in the collegiate races.

Hatboro-Horsham took both teams titles. Frosh Kerry Swayne led HH in 18:03 for 2.9 miles for the girls, while Upper Dublin senior Matt Lawson was the boys champ, going 14:58.

Today was a good day to be a member of the CNU men's and women's cross country teams as both teams came away with team titles at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships held in Williamsburg. Also, CNU senior Aimee Gibbs and freshmen Brandon Miles earned individual conference titles.

It is upon us. The championship season. It's time for the only three meets that really matter this year; Districts, Regionals, and States. Districts is a warm up for most, to get into the really competitive mode that runners will need for the next two meets. Regional meets are always key. They not only serve as bridges to States for the border line teams that spend the entire year aiming to get in, but everyone constantly tries to analyze the results to attempt to piece together the best prediction possible for States. The six days separating the two meets are filled with suspense and impatience as everyone tries to be the "genius" that made all the right picks, or at least picked that one HUGE upset that occurs either with the teams or individuals. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and the millions sitting around computer screens, let's get ready to rumble.

Rocco Panella of Notre Dame led a :59 gap from one to five as his team won handily with just 26 points.

Very quite weekend as teams prepare for their championship season races with only the Jefferson Forest hosted Runnin' With The Wolves Invitational and Georgetown Prep Invitational in Maryland being run off.

A very busy weekend for Virginia schools with the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Iowa having many of the state's best teams in attendance, while back at home the Tribe Open and Mason-Dixon Championships were held on the same course on the same day in Williamsburg.

Governor Mifflin set the tone earlier in the season when the knocked off rival Wyomissing in a dual meet. And they made it stick with a 52-79 win at the Berks County Championships behind soph Jess Topper, who was 2nd in 19:23.

Craig and Brad Miller went one-two to lead their team to a big win, and Betsy Sensenig cruised, while Garden Spot topped Ephrata fors the girls team title.

The State College boys held off rival Altoona by two points to win the Mountain Athletic Conference title.

Paige Bridges is a senior at St. Joseph\'s High School in Greenville. St. Joseph\'s is a private school and the school participates in the SC Independent Schools Association (SCISA) state cross-country meet that is set for Saturday, Oct. 18. Bridges captured the individual title at the 2001 state meet.

Clemson University is hosting the 15th Annual Clemson Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18. The college meet is also the State Championships. The event started in 1987.

Thanks to their 6th runner, and a single point from Sarah Roberts, Perkiomen Valley won the girls team title with 47 points. Roberts won in 19:29.

Henderson boys hold off charging Coatesville by one behind one-two tie between Williams and Gottesfeld. Henderson girls win behind Farkas.

The Pleasant Valley boys take East Stroudsburg South, as Brian Cullin wins for South. Stroudsburg girls win, as Lehighton's Krystyn Fenon takes individual honors.

Unionville and Great Valley have strong girls and boys teams this season, so it was no surprise they split the titles at the Southern Chester County League Championships.

The Dallas girls dominated the race behind Lisa Giacometti; while the Fritz brothers tied @ Ed Narkiewicz All-League, formerly knows as the Wyoming Valley Coaches Meet.

Wind and upperclassmen didn\'t intimidate the two freshmen from Tamaqua who ran off with league titles in their first try.

Carlisle didn\'t field their varsity after a trip to Florida, which left the door open for a very strong Cedar Cliff squad to take the team title with just 37 points.

In the inaugural Tim Cook JV Invitational - named for the late Chambersburg coach who died in an auto accident late last year along with his wife - his girls program showed its dedication and depth by scoring a perfect 15 points.

Well, ladies and gentlemen it's October. It's starting to get a little colder, the leaves are changing colors; which means its championship time. The top harriers in the region are starting to fall into place and everyone is getting an idea of what's to come in the upcoming championship meets. It's been an exciting season so far with the complete domination of Daniel Howard from MWGS and Amanda Patterson from Midlothian, the uprising of teams like J.R. Tucker, and stellar performances once again from teams like Midlothian, Maggie Walker, and Freeman.

Wren\'s Sunday Ford has been on a roll this season. The junior Hurricane recently finished first at the Tri-County XC Classic after a win at the Furman Invitational in Greenville on Saturday.

Beneath a clear October sky and with cool weather, Steven Walters asserted himself as the preeminent Virginia Distance Runner of the year. Many expected Walters to do well this year, but few expected him to dominate the state\'s competition as he has thus far. He is undefeated so far and has defeated many of the best runners in Virginia, as well as Brian Fuller, one of Pennsylvania

Resting their top seven for an upcoming league championship meet, Tulpehocken\'s JV squad didn\'t place a runner above 6th, but their 45 second spread to a their 5th man in 14th, and having their 6th across before Panther Valley\'s last scorer, broke a 45-45 tie for the team title.

US#23 Hatboro-Horsham girls roll thanks to their freshman stars Kerry Swayne and Brittany Sullivan. Five in top 15 with 1:08 spread, all seven in top 21.

Steve Hallinan ran the fastest 5k at Rose Tree Park in six years, matching the 1996 15:32 by that year's AAA State Champ Ben Showers from Henderson.

Greenville junior Jed Christiansen beat 2001Foot Locker Finalist Andy Weilacher\'s Rocky Grove course record by 19 seconds. But Weilacher\'s old team looked strong behind the senior leadership of Grant Allen. Soph Lindsay Petri of General McLane was a 30-second winner. West Allegheny took the girls\' team win.

Dave Sanford of host Central Columbia, went 16:44 for the win, but Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, behind the 2nd place finish of John Zaginaylo in 17:04, took the team title, placing five in the top 12 for 42 points.

Germantown Friends tops boys field behind Ian MacTavish (16:52). Faye Korich top PA girl, 2nd in 20:10.

Adam Dickerson of Franklin County refused to allow being overscheduled to interfere with his plans for the Metro Cross Country Invitational Saturday afternoon. Catherine White of Northside declined to allow being inexperienced stand in the way of her objectives at the same meet.

The University of Richmond men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Orlando, Florida for the prestigious Walt Disney World Classic this weekend. The meet brought together 32 college teams on Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex from as far away as Canada. The Spiders were ready for the competition. The women's team continued to be impressive, easily defeating the second place University of Florida Gators with a score of 53 to 75. The men finished second overall in the large field to the University of Windsor (Canada), the top ranked collegiate team in Canada. The men easily outdistanced third place University of Miami (FL) who scored 152 points.

Lane King finished 2nd overall in the boys AA race in 16:26.4 to lead his team to a 2nd place finish, while teammate Aryn Gruneisen was 3rd in 19:41.4 in her race, leading the team to a 3rd place finish, also in the AA race.

Busy weekend of racing action before teams get in two weeks of quality training before their district meets. The MileStat.com Invitational, Albemarle Invitational, Chesapeake Invitational, Glory Days Grill Invitational, and Metro Invitational all drew strong fields to disperse the state\'s talent among them for exciting races. Meanwhile, other squads took lenghty trips out of state to compete at the Manhattan Invitational (NY) and Disney Classic (FL).

Hayfield junior Melissa Dewey and the Herndon girls team raced to overwhelming victories while Westfield senior David Groff and the Oakton boys team produced narrow wins at the 11th Annual Glory Days Grill Invitational held at Bull Run Regional Park on Saturday, October 11.

Virginia was well represented by two teams who made the journey north this past weekend to the Manhattan College Invitational, where the teams competed on the one of the nation

The Virginia DII-III state meet was held this past weekend, while Lynchburg traveled north to Indiana to compete in the DIII Pre-Nationals race and Richmond went south to Disney World to compete at the Disney Classic in Orlando, Florida.

Dorman Cavalier sophomore Chad Palmer is in his first year of running. The Cavalier has a 5k personal best of 18:42.

DyeStat, the Internet home of high school track, will be covering the PIAA State Championships at Hersheypark on Saturday November 1st.

Hannah Wright is a freshman at Clemson University. Wright graduated from Wren High School in May, 2003. Hannah recently finished 11th at East Carolina University with a 5k time of 18:58.94. Wright led Wren\'s cross country team to top-five state finishes in cross country from 1999-2002.

The 30th annual Metro Invitational will be held Saturday at Roanoke College

Over 60 schools will assemble Saturday in the hilly foothills of the Blue Ridge for the 2003 running of the Albemarle Invitational hosted by Albemarle High School. The meet brings together a unique blend of AAA, AA, A and private schools. Featured will be the top ranked girls

As the last weekend of September came and went, Eastern Region teams and individuals garnered some impressive wins and posted some fabulous times. As always, Steven Walters of Green Run was the highlight of the Eastern Region when he won (16:27) >the Maymont Cross Country Invite in Richmond. He ran most of the race with JR Tucker sophomore Michael Chapa until the final 300m or so when he kicked in to the finish line ahead of Chapa by 4 seconds.

Quaker Valley placed five in the top 27 and barely held off the :35 second pack of West Allegheny. But the West Allegheny girls won with five in the top20. Sam Howard, Moon, took individual honors.

On a cool rainy day, with the course muddy and soft in spots, Caleb Fritz of Northwest Area, and Elisabeth Hennip of Northeast Bradford, were victorious.

Although it hasn't been too long since my last rundown, a WHOLE LOT has happened. A lot has gone down, and it's that time of the season, where it isn't quite in championship mode, but you can start to see teams and individuals coming together or falling apart. So let me make some nice bold predictions...let the chaos begin

Welcome to all competitors, coaches, parents and all other followers of cross country to the 10th Anniversary edition of the Glory Days Grill XC Invitational. After a one year hiatus as a result of the unfortunate sniper situation of last fall, the Glory Days Grill cross country meet is back in the saddle again and looks this year to have the promise of being the largest and best ever.

The place to be on October 4th was Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The meet brought together the some of the best teams in Texas from all classification. The Big race was in the Boys and Girls Gold Divisions.

Ian Fitzgerald led his North Hills team to a win over rival Mt. Lebanon, but Lebo leader Jim O'Toole finally won one even after colliding with a non-competing athlete during the final sprint. Penn Hills\' Katie Grimm continued her strong season with a win, but Amy Ruffolo leads North Allegheny to a title.

LaSalle continued their strong season behind the 2nd place finish of Joe Federowicz in 16:36 on the tough Salesianum layout. The Explorers topped NJ\'s Toms River North by four, and Hatboro-Horsham by 26. The Hatboro-Horsham girls dominated the girls A race with four top ten finishes behind Kerry Swayne\'s 2nd place 19:47.

Fuller and Gray lead the Cumberland Valley Eagles to 2nd and 3rd place team finishes.

Janelle Young won the individual title, but Kylee Schuler\'s Chambersburg team took the girls\' trophy. Cedar Cliff\'s boys beat a strong field, as David Mock, Westmont Hilltop, won a tough matchup with O\'Hara\'s Steve Hallinan.

Steel City Girls Finish Photos

Matt Lawson picked a big race to post a great run, going 15:56 at Lehigh. Parkland boys 3 better than Upper Dublin. Kate Vernon runs a quick 18:24 to lead her Gwynedd-Mercy team to a 17-point win.

Through admission that was collected at today\'s flrunners.com Invitational IV, the new scholarship fund received a great start.

The William & Mary Invitational and Octoberfest Invitational were big draws this past weekend in terms of quality teams and individuals as a number of top ranked teams and individuals gathered in Williamsburg and at Great Meadows.

Plenty of fast times were posted this weekend by Virginian collegiates on the speedways known as the Paul Short Invitational and Pirate Invitational (held by East Carolina University). Meanwhile, the University of Richmond men and women had impressive showings at the LaSalle Invitational.

The Octoberfest Invitational started as a chilly, rainy morning rekindling thoughts of 3 weeks before when the rain and the mud controlled the events of the day. But the rain soon subsided and the temperatures slowly began to rise.

The University of Richmond men's and women's cross country teams continue to have an excellent season. The women's team showed why they are ranked at the top of the Atlantic 10 Conference today as they easily won the LaSalle Invitational over #2 LaSalle and #3 Duquesne. The #1 Spiders left no doubt about their strength as they scored 17 points by placing five athletes in the top six over-all and maintaining a 1-5 split of only 28 seconds.

Eisenhower dominated the boys small schools at the McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park behind a first place 15:30 3-mile. Lane King of Fairview was 4th in 16:00. Eisenhower won with 75 points. Wellsboro\'s girls won the girls small school race with 87 points.

Steven Duplinsky led Georgetown Prep with a 16:48 1st place effort, but St. Albans was the team winner by 29 over Georgetown. Episcopal\'s Elizabeth Harrison led her team to the title with just 48 points with a 19:50 effort.

Greensburg-Salem takes the girls team title behind Bielick. King takes boys title, as Allderdice is team champ @ the AJ Everhart Inv.

Steve Hallinan continued his winning ways, and in the process led the Cardinal O\'Hara Lions over Bonner by 13 points at the hurricane-delayed meet (from 9/29), while Uniontown\'s Katie Theader held off two of the PCL\'s best.

Placing five in the top 17, the Emmaus girls tallied just 61 points while the boys totaled 66 to take both team titles.

Fairview and General McLane battle it out as each team takes a title and each has an individual champ.

Allentown Central Catholic senior Frances Koons came into this season confident. She used that confidence to challenge one of the country\'s best on September 13th at Spiked Shoe, finishing just nine seconds behind last season\'s Foot Locker Final\'s 4th place finisher, Laura Cummings of Bay Shore, NY. PennTrack talked with Koons after her stunning domination of the quality field 9/27 at Carlisle, and found a runner who knows she has earned her status among the nation\'s best... but she\'s not taking anything for granted.

Because of a teachers\' strike, Hendeson\'s Greg Williams and Ian Gottesfeld traveled to North Carolina without their coach, but with all the confidence in the world after breaking a tough course record along with O\'Hara senior Steve Hallinan 9/20. The two finished 2nd (Williams 15:50) and 6th (Gottesfeld 16:00) at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina.
