    The Eastern Region once again dominated the state AAA outdoor track and field championships as they swept the team titles with Deep Creek repeating as the boys team winner and perennial power Bethel taking the girls crown this past weekend at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.

    The Northern Region Track and Field Championships are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start today at Lake Braddock and hopefully will be able to follow the regular scenario of being a two day meet which concludes tomorrow, as long as the persistent weather pattern currently pestering the area does not rain too much on the parade of events.

    With the Dominion District Meet already being completed on Tuesday, that leaves three other districts in the Central Region to finish up their district meets tomorrow as the Capital, Central, and Colonial Districts all conclude their multiple day district meets. The crystal ball should be a little bit clearer on who the top teams, relays, and individuals will be at next Wednesday and Thursday's Central Region Meet after tomorrow's district meets.

    There was no question about it who was clearly the superior team after the completion of Tuesday night's Dominion District outdoor track meet at Clover Hill High School. Amassing a total of 204 points, the Monacan boys' track team won by a large margin over Midlothian with 128 points for runner-up honors.

  • The "Classic" weathers the storm for best ever night

    Severe thunderstorms rumbled through the Central Virginia area Friday afternoon with extreme weather conditions causing much damage with tornadoes and hail. The county of Dinwiddie was actually placed on a tornado warning at one point of the day. Well the storm roared through and did inflict it's damage, but the Southern Track Classic went on with only a slight delay as the meet officials and athletes competing not only made the best of the situation, but took it a step further by making it quite possibly the best Southern Track Classic ever.
