Aurora Scott, Catherine White, and Brad Siragusa have alll punched their tickets to San Diego for Foot Locker Nationals with top ten finishes at the Foot Locker South regional meet in Charlotte, North Carolina. Scott, who qualified as a freshmen last year for Foot Locker Nationals, will be making her second trip to San Diego with a third place finishing time of 17:15. White, the two-time Group AA state champion from Northside, will be making her first appearance at Foot Locker Nationals as a junior with a sixth place clocking time of 17:19. Group AAA state champion Brad Siragusa of Chantilly qualified for Foot Locker Nationals by finishing sixth in the boys\' seeded race with a personal best time of 15 flat.
Kate Niehaus qualified for her fourth straight Footlocker National meet with a second place finish. Niehaus crossed the line in 17:15.

The Milligan College women\'s cross country team completed the 2005 season with a tenth place finish at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships Saturday morning at Louisville\'s E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park marking the highest-ever finish by a Milligan cross country team.
A record crowd of about 160 participants took off in frosty 30 degree temperatures from the brand new YWCA facility in downtown Bristol, straddling the Tennessee and Virginia state lines. (Saturday, November 19th, 2005, Louisville, Ky.) - The Virginia Intermont College Men\'s Cross-Country team doubled their pleasure Saturday, when they ran to their second consecutive team title, topping runner-up Concordia University (Irvine, Cal.) 52-122. Leading the way for the Cobras was freshman Steeve Gabart (Miami, Florida), running to a 9th place finish of 24:54.65, for the 8,000 meter course. Following Steeve into the finish were junior Pat Marion (Ottawa, Ontario) in 14th place (25:02.70), sophomore Ondrej Puskar (Trnava, Slovakia) in 15th place (25:03.10), freshman Jeremy Cadle (Charlottesville, Va.) in 18th place (25:04.70), and senior James Mousseau (Killdeer, N.D.) in 21st place (25:06.80). The top-5 finishers for VI all earned All-American honors for their top-30 finishes.

Neely Spence didn\'t have high school cross country teammates to call in the summer of 2004 to go on those long training runs required for a successful cross country season. She lives in the Shippensburg School District and is homeschooled. Shippensburg is one of 221 districts that did not permit participation by homeschoolers in extracurricular activities. Neely -- who as a freshman finished 14th in the 2004 Foot Locker Northeast Regionals -- did something about the first problem... and Governor Ed Rendell and the Pennsylvania Legislature did something about the second.

Midlothian girls (63 pts) simply destroy NTN southeast #4 ranked Oakton (115 pts) for the AAA girls\' state team title. A NTN berth would be well deserved for the Lady Trojans (19:09 team average) after such a dominating performance with four runners hovering in and out of All-State honors with M.C. Miller (11th, 18:52.33), Paige Johnston (14th, 18:56.08), Erin Stehle (16th, 19:04.06), and Samantha Dow (18th, 19:13.86). Anne Tenser (40th, 19:41.45) ran a solid fifth for Midlothian. Rachel Rose runs the second fastest time of the day to win the AAA girls\' race in 17:57.77. The fastest time of the day belonged to Northside\'s Catherine White as she defends her AA state crown in 17:48.66. AA runner-up Becky Stewart (18:32.38) leads her Brentsville squad (19:19 team average) to their first AA state crown by a 25 point margin over Blacksburg. Craig County senior Lori Crotts surprised everyone in winning the girls\' Group A race over her Region C rival Kelly Clark of Glenvar (2nd, 18:55.11) as she did it in convincing fashion with a time of 18:15.45. No shocker in the girls\' team scores for Group A as Clarke County won by a 63 point margin. The Group AAA boys race sees a crazy finish with Chantilly senior Brad Siragusa (15:21.64) finally come up big in his final state meet as he outkicks favored junior Mike Spooner of West Springfield (15:25.26) for the win. The team battle was pretty wild as well as a mere four points seperated the top three teams in state champion Oakton (95 pts), state runner-up Thomas Jefferson (16:20 average, 98 pts), and state third-place finisher Midlothian (99 pts). Abingdon sophomore Griff Graves (15:51.34) got the last laugh on Christiansburg senior John Horst (16:01.40) in winning the Group AA individual state crown, while the Brentsville boys (16:24 team average) had a dominating team showing with 63 points putting them well-ahead of runner-up Western Albemarle. The Clarke County boys certainly showed they belong ranked among the top teams in Group AA and AAA with a dual meet-like score of 20 points to win the Group A state title with nearly 7 all-state individuals with their top 7 all in the top 17 places. Clarke County junior Simon Biddle-Snead successfully defending his title in 16:09.19, while senior teammate Michael Leonard was the race runner-up in 16:29.75. Danielle Bradley, who ran a 2:09 800 last spring, announced today that she has signed with Baylor University in Texas. While sprinter Lecia Brown signed a volleyball scholarship with Louisville (she will also compete in track).
Unfortunately I will not be at this year\'s state meet at Great Meadows as I promised my stepfather I\'d help pace him in his first ever marathon in Richmond this weekend, but I can still give my two cents of what to look for and expect this Saturday at Great Meadows. Not only will state titles be on the line, but for many teams Saturday will be a make or break situation for Nike Team National berths. Group AA kicks off things on Saturday morning with the AA girls as the first race at 10:30 am and AA boys following at 11:15. The Brenstville boys and girls are expected to sweep the state titles and set the bar high for NTN aspiring teams in the Group AAA races, which make up the middle portion of the meet. AAA girls go off at 11:45 am and AAA boys start at 12:30 pm. Oakton and Midlothian girls will butt heads, while there are a handful of teams that have to be considered in contention for the boys\' team title in AAA with the Oakton boys leading the way. The meet could possibly a see a clean sweep of teams with the Clarke County boys and girls heavily favored in the Group A division, which are the last races of the day with the girls at 1:00 pm and boys at 1:45 pm.
Following their one-point win over NE#7 Coatesville and NE#9 Manheim Township, West Chester East -- previously ranked this season -- moved into the 7th slot in the November 11 Northeast rankings. Manheim Township moved up a spot to #8. And in the girls\' rankings, Latrobe moved into NE#7 based on their strong win at the state championships.

Senior Greg Thomas finally gets his XC championship. In the girls championship, Cardinal O\'Hara kept their hold on the title with a slightly better performance than in 2004, tallying just 24 points to win by 29 over Archbishop Prendergast, which started with the one point awarded to the league champ, Colleen Boland.

Pole Green Park has never been kind to the Midlothian boys and girls\' cross country teams. In years\' past at the regional meet, the Trojans have had sub-par days and sometimes even just complete breakdowns at the 5K course found in Mechanicsville. However, a minor course change due to park scheduling conflicts, was enough to erase those bad memories as the girls dominated the region with four of the top five finishers, while the boys had their first regional individual champion on the four year old regional meet host site in sophomore Jason Witt (16:08). James River sophomore Kristen Wolfe was able to prevent a top four sweep from the Lady Trojans as she won the regional title in the second fastest time ever recorded on a Pole Green 5K course in 18:43 (Aurora Scott ran 18:13 earlier in the season). The Hermitage boys won their first regional title since 1979. John Vial was the team\'s top finisher in second at 16:23, but Alex Bowman had been the team\'s top runner and race leader down the final stretch on pace to possibly break 16 minutes, but collapsed and ended up gathering himself enough to cross the line in 16:29 for fifth place.
The last of the four stories, race by race, is on: AAA Boys -- East trains for the hills and edges Manheim Twp. Craiig Miller three-peats in hardest race of the season. AA Boys -- Scranton Prep adds another team title. Isaac Dunkelberger never quits and catches a distressed Jake Walker for win. AA Girls -- Dallas overcomes adversity times two - Carly Seymour challenges the field and holds on to win first state title. AAA Girls -- A little intelligence goes a long way. A lot wins a first-ever state title for Latrobe cross country - Liz Costello simply wanted it more. What she got was a title and a big-time course record.

Districts shook things up pretty good and gave better gauges who teams stack up, but this week\'s regional meets will give the final indication how teams and individuals stand before the state meet at Great Meadows.
This year there are, as always, some reasonably sure things... and, as always, there are some toss-ups. It has also been a year where individuals have seemingly come out of nowhere to take positions at the front of the pack, while other athletes have simply confirmed the talent we have already known was there.

Make no mistake about it...we are witnessing history. The current crop of young female runners is without question the best ever to come through Georgia. Emily Borsare, Emily Reese, Shelley Taylor and Jackie Drouin have set the bar at a new level with their electrifying performances. Numbers like 16:59, 17:38, 17:52 and 17:43 (on a 3 mile course) would have been unheard of just a few years ago. Now they happen with sudden regularity. It all came into focus this weekend at the Region 7-AAAAA championships when I watched Jackie Drouin run an amazing race to finish over a minute ahead of her closest competitor, teammate Erin Guglielmo who ran a not so shabby 18:55. Then it hit me...what I had just witnessed was only the third fastest time in the state this season!

At the Gettysburg Invitational, it was Vince McNally pushing Craig Miller to a sub-15 on a flat course. At the 10/29 PIAA District 3 Championships, it was Kennard Dale senior Jon Grey as the only one to stay with Miller through the mile and then 2.5 miles before the senior star pulled away for a 15:31 course record. The Millers 1st and 3rd led their Manheim Township team to a 93-point margin of victory over surprising Twin Valley, 58-151. Chambersburg\'s girls weren\'t quite as dominant over a strong Governor Mifflin squad, winning by 40 behind the fastest time of the day, an 18:45 by junior Sarah Morrison. York Suburban\'s AA boys used a 38-second compression to beat Lancaster Mennonite 92-100, with Kutztown senior Josh Neyhart winning the race in 16:35. The Lancaster Mennonite girls had little trouble in the AA race, as Lindsey Shertzer took 2nd in 19:10 and Katie Ruth 4th in 10:21, tallying just 68 points. Boiling Springs sophomore Kara Millhouse won her second District 3 AA title in 19:05.
The WVIAC is well represented in the final regular season rankings as published by the D2 Coaches Association. The 10/31/05 rankings reveal the strength of the West Virginia colleges on the Regional scene.
Run on the same day on the same course, the 10/29 PIAA District 5 Championships belonged to the Chestnut Ridge boys and Bedford girls. It was a State College sweeps for the boys and girls at the 10/29 PIAA District 6 Championships in the AAA races. In AA, Central Cambria sophomore Carly Seymour posted the fastest time of the day to lead her team to the title. Penns Valley\'s boys won a two-point race over Central Cambria, while Westmont Hilltop\'s Travis Dean was District champ.
The top five of Satellite\'s girls cross country team, ranked first in the 3A, is dominated by two sets of sisters: Jessica and Juliana Sterm, Kaitlen and Ashley Shiver, along with Alisa Kowaleski round out the scoring for the Scorpions. And it\'s not only rivalry with other teams that keep them going!
Bradford won both AAA title behind individual wins by their top runners, while in AA, it was Elk County Catholic taking both team titles, and Brookville\'s Jessica Swonger and Smethport\'s Ben Hahn capturing individual honors.
