unior Garrett Brickner (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) of The Virginia Military Institute has qualified in the high jump for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet. The meet will take place in Sacramento, Calif. beginning on Wednesday June 8 and run through Saturday June 11. It will be held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento with Sacramento State and The Sacramento Sports Commission serving as hosts.

Performance list for the Group AAA State Meet to be held this weekend at Todd Stadium in Newport News.

Ron Lopresti has coached at Plymouth-Whitemarsh for 36 years. He has had over a dozen state champions indoors, and six outdoors, including one who captured both Hurdles events (Bob Irvine). But never has he had a 20-minute period at any meet where two of this athletes performed to their own expectations and simply refused to lose - despite the odds.

Virginia Intermont College, in only its second year of fielding a team, amassed 83 points to finish second at the men

University of Virginia track and field athlete Inge Jorgensen won the javelin competition at the NCAA East Regional meet, tossing a 167\' 11\" to take the gold medal and a berth in the NCAA national championships, marking the fourth time she has advanced to the NCAA national championships. Teammate Billie Jo Grant was the runner-up in the discus, throwing a 172\' 5\" to take the silver. McGavock Dunbar also finished in the top five, running a 1:50.18 in the 800m run.

Spyridon Jullien and Brian Mondschein, athletes on Virginia Tech\'s track and field team, won NCAA east region individual titles on the last day of the championships hosted by Manhattan College. Spyridon Jullien (Jr., Athens, Greece) won Virginia Tech and his own first NCAA east region individual title today with a throw of 219\'11\" (67.04m) in the hammer event. With his win, Jullien automatically qualified to compete in his third NCAA outdoor national meet and earned 10 points for Tech\'s men\'s team. Brian Mondschein (Jr., Hummelstown, Pa.) jumped 17\'1\" (5.21m) in the pole vault event to win his first NCAA east region individual title today. Mondschein\'s first-place finish automatically qualified him to compete in his second NCAA outdoor championships.

The 2005 Northwest Regional Outdoor Track and Field Meet will be held at the University of Virginia on Friday, May 27, 2005. The track will open at 9:00am and the Coaches Meeting is scheduled for 9:45am. The meet starts at 10:30am.

Central Dauphin Ryan Whiting got two PRs in one meet. Following his specatacular 201-09 Discus on Friday, he uncorked a 70-00 Shot Put to capture the state meet record, as well as his season goal - two PRs in the same meet. Conestoga Valley went 7:40.06 in the 4x800. Both marks are US#1s. And Engineering & Science set a AA Girls PIAA record of 3:53.43 in the 4x400.

Christine Saja is a junior at Broome High School. Saja finished first in the discus and third in the shot put at the State Championships. Broome, a former 3A school is now in the 2A classification.

Seven individuals and two relay teams from Hampton University will compete at the 2005 NCAA Division I East Regional Track & Field Championships set for this Friday and Saturday, May 27 and 28 at Icahn Stadium in Randall\'s Island, New York. Leading the way for Hampton is a pair of sensational ladies in senior Kellie Wells and sophomore Yvette Lewis. An All-American during the indoor season, Wells brings the sixth best 100-meter hurdle time in the region into this weekend

Eighteen University of Virginia track and field student athletes will compete this weekend (May 27-28) at the NCAA East Regional, part of the process of qualifying for the NCAA National Championship. The East Regional is hosted by Manhattan College and held at Icahn Stadium on Randall\'s Island, NY. Leading the Cavalier contingent is four-time ACC Champion and three-time NCAA Nationals qualifier Inge Jorgensen. Jorgensen, who has twice qualified for the US Olympic Trials in the javelin, is currently ranked fourth in the nation among collegiate athletes in her event. She leads the East Region while teammate Annie Bobiak is ranked ninth in the javelin. The Virginia women also feature rookie Billie-Jo Grant in the weight events, as Grant will compete in both the shot put and the discus. Grant already ranks in the top-three all-time at Virginia in both events, and she is ranked 18th in the nation, and third in the East, in the discus, the event she won at the ACC meet.

At this weekend\'s 2005 NCAA East Region Track & Field Championships hosted by Manhattan College and held at Icahn Stadium on Randall\'s Island, N.Y., fifteen Virginia Tech athletes will compete to finish in the top-five of their respective event to automatically qualify for the national championships or finish in sixth through eighth place in their event to be put into the at large selection pool.

The United States Track Coaches Association named Virginia Tech\'s Spyridon Jullien as the Mondo Outdoor Southeast District Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division I. This outdoor season, Jullien (Jr., Athens, Greece) set the school and ACC overall hammer throw record with the current No. 1 mark in the nation (238\'5\'; 72.68m) at the Clemson Invitational. He has held the top spot on the NCAA Division I performance list all outdoor season. Jullien won the ACC men\'s hammer throw title with a new ACC meet and Florida State\'s Mike Long Track record of 233\'7\" (71.27m).

Virginia Intermont College finds itself in second place with 16 points after the first day of competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Kentucky. VIC distance star Fernando Cabada was crowned a national champion with his win in the 10,000 meter run as he was clocked in at a time of 29:53.09 as the junior took a narrow victory over Simo Kiplagat (29:54.06) of Lindenwood. Virginia Intermont College sophomore David Cheromei could possibly pick up another ten points for the Cobras in the steeplechase finals as he had the fastest time in the preliminaries on Thursday by 17 seconds with a time of 8:53.56.

Virginia State University\'s Andre Faulcon advanced to the finals in the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Abile Christian University in Texas with a 10.46. In the first day of competition on Thursday, Faulcon finished sixth among the 25 entrants to advance as a top eight finisher to Saturday\'s final. Teammate Joe Williams finished 15th in the long jump competition on Thursday with a leap of 22-05.25.

Bonner didn\'t wait as long as the Boston Red Sox for their championship, but it wasn\'t an overnight thing, either. And in her final League championship meet, Nicole Leach not only won four individual events, she set the league record in each.

Elisha Jones has the Jav going on this year, as the sophomore adds a district title to her Penn Relays win.

Maureen Newell helps Elk County Catholic with two individual wins and two legs on winning relays.

Three Lynchburg College track & field athletes will be competing for All-American honors this Thursday through Saturday at the 2005 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals hosted by Wartburg College (IA).

Osayi Osunde and Melissa each qualify in three events.

Josh Hostetler, a Selinsgrove junior, joined the 200 club in the Javelin, while three teammates were double district champs.

When the Dekalb International Training Center decided they wanted to host an elite meet for local and international talent, they knew that Murray Sanford was the man who could put it all together. That vision has become a reality as athletes from as far away as Guatemala will compete at Georgia Tech on May 28th.

Brandon Hudgins is a senior at Northwestern High School. Hudgins finished first in the 1600 and third in the 3200 at the 4A State Championship. Hudgins will continue his running career as a Winthrop Eagle.

The athletes had to overcome the rain and cold on Friday, but when they did, it was a beautiful day of competition Saturday for the District 1 Track and Field Championships at Coatesville HS. North Penn boys and Coatesville girls picked up the AAA team titles and Gwynedd Mercy Academey and Octorara boys picked up the AA teams titles.

Pennsylvania\'s track and field stars moved on to the big dance, with some just worried about getting there in one piece, while others went for their PRs. Here are a few of the highlights. Craig Miller torched the 1600-800 double... Ryan Whiting came with a half-inch of a season goal... Knowledge Timmons set the standard for the sprints @ District 3 @ Shippensburg.

Four camps and clinics are set for Shippensburg University this summer, including ones for Sprints/Hurdles/Pole Vault - Throws - Jumps and, of course, cross country.

Bradford junior Erin Hannon got past the required part - qualifying for States in her four events.

Hermitage hurdler star Queen Harrison suffered an unfortunate season ending injury at last night\'s Colonial District Meet. On the Wednesday portion of the Colonial District Meet at Douglas Freeman High School, Harrison was competing in the trials of the 300 meter hurdles. Out in the lead in her heat, Harrison hit the sixth hurdle and fell to the ground. She was able to get up and chase down the runners that passed her in the fall and win the heat in dramatic fashion. However, it was later learned that she suffered a broken collar bone and that it would take four to six weeks to heal. Harrison was just coming off a great performance at last Friday\'s Southern Track Classic where she posted the state\'s fastest time in a personal best time of 43.17 for the 300 meter low hurdles event and seemed to poise to win the state crown this June. Hopefully, Harrison will have a speedy recovery and begin preparation for a stellar senior season next year.

A newcomer wins the three jumps, while a name you know just keeps notching some great marks... in four events.

Coming off her US #1 3200 performance on Wednesday with a winning time of 10:16.03, Fauquier senior Sarah Bowman continued to amaze at the Northwestern District Meet as she tuned in some fine performances the next day in the 1600 and 800 meter races. In the 1600 meter run, Bowman ran a three second personal best in the event to clock a time of 4:41.17. Bowman just missed reclaiming her US #1 spot in the event as the current leader, Brie Felnagle from the state of Washington, ran a hand held time of 4:40.9 (converts to 4:41.14 FAT) at a tri-meet last weekend. Bowman then came back with less than one and a half hours rest to win the 800 meter run in a solid time of 2:08.62.

Many were speculating what Fauquier middle distance star Sarah Bowman could run for 3200 meters. The last time Bowman had ran a 3200 meter race was in a few dual meets her freshmen year. Well the University of Tennessee bound star showed what she could do in the eight lap event at the Northwestern District Meet on Wednesday night by posting the nation\'s fastest time with a 10:16.03 clocking. Bowman will be coming back today for the Thursday portion of the meet to run in the 1600 and 800 meter races. Bowman currently has the nation\'s fastest time in the 800 meter run (2:05.41) and formerly had the nation\'s fastest time at 1600 meters (4:44.09) until Brie Felnagle of Washington recently ran a 4:40.9 clocking.

R.J. Anderson, the 2A state 400-meter champion and honor-roll Key West High School student, has signed a national letter of intent to compete on the track and field team at Baylor University in Waco.

Osayi Osunde, the Villanova-bound running back and track & field thrower from Central Columbia, added three individual titles to his growing resume...and there were a few other doubles.

Janessa Murphy of Great Valley enjoyed the final competition on her home track with three individual wins. Double doubles in the distance races. And high and triple jumps that were outstanding.

Aubrey Darnell is a senior at Ridge View High School. Darnell will attend College of Charleston in August. Darnell captured the 3200 state title in the 4A classification, enroute to helping the Blazers win the team title.

West Catholic sprints to ten wins... but Cardinal O\'Hara depth pays off with a PCL Southern Division team title.

Juan Cave wins two and sets a meet record, while the 800 is as close as it sometimes gets.

The AAA individual qualifiers held at West Mifflin and Butler were all about taking care of business - which means moving on to the WPIAL Championships, which is the only road you can travel to States.

It was athlete-vs-athlete, whether AA or AAA, and in the end, the performances showed talent at all levels. Cedar Cliff continued to show its depth with both teams... while individually, it was the sophomore class that made sure their older teammates knew they were a force to be reckoned with - taking six individual girls\' championships.

Another Georgia track season has come to a close and the boys state meet provided a fitting ending for a fantastic season.

It\'s out of the pool, onto the track and the times, they are a-dropping for the Millers of Manheim Township.

James Madison sophomore Adrienne Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) nailed a career-best jump and placed third in the triple jump at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women\'s Track and Field Championships Sunday at Princeton. Mayo\'s leap of 40 feet, 9 3/4 inches bettered her existing personal-best of 40\'5 1/2\" and also qualified her for the NCAA East Region Championships for the second year in a row.

The show started on the first afternoon of the Suburban One League American Conference at Plymouth-Whitemarsh. In what may arguably be one of the strongest conferences for the girls, there will be amazing matchups between Wissahickon senior Krista Simkins and frosh star Ryann Krais of Methacton, and Krais and Plymouth Whitemarsh\'s Chanel Williams. And Springfield Montco anchor Mike Malizia split 1:54.7 as they set a new meet record.

In western PA, some are questioning the wisdom of having five high-caliber, live-or-go home meets within a grueling seven day stretch... while in Central PA, many of the AA athletes have been shut out of a championship meet, losing a last run or a last chance at districts. There is something magical in the air at every Southern Track Classic when night falls and the lights are on. The tensity and nerves conveyed by the athletes combined with the awe and excitement shown in the faces of the fans, parents, and coaches is something truly unique to this meet. A meet of this caliber was lacking last spring when the Classic took a year of absence and the impact of this loss was greatly felt. However, Virginia\'s finest in high school track and field competition has returned !

If you think you are going to wait till the start of the running events with the 4x800 meter relays at the Southern Track Classic this Friday night, you will have sadly missed one half of the excitement that will be generated from the many outstanding performances that are guaranteed to be produced at University of Richmond\'s Fred Hardy Track. The Classic has a great history of some of the most exciting field event competitions ever in the state as the deep and talented fields found can produce nothing less than greatness. Fred Samara of Princeton University, reports that a PA high school athlete performed well at April\'s Sam Howell Decathlon at the New University school.

There are rules that may have been violated. There were numerous complaints made to the PIAA. There will be a consistent application of any decisions. But the bottom line is, some PA athletes may not be able to compete during the indoor season of 2005-2006.

Cardinal O\'Hara has depth. Taking five events wins, and placing eight other athletes in the top three, they tallied 137 points to win the Delco Girls\' Championship. And two meet records were rewritten, one in the 3200, and one in the Shot Put.

These rankings were calculated by scoring the elite performances rankings list 8-deep. 1st place received 8 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 8th place. The University of Virginia is ranked number one with 159 points as Virginia Tech (2nd, 123 pts), College of William & Mary (3rd, 95 pts), Liberty University (4th, 69 pts), and Hampton University (5th, 65 pts) rounded out the top five ranked teams.

These rankings were calculated by scoring the elite performances rankings list 20-deep, following the State Championships. 1st place received 20 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 20th place.

It\'s tough following in the footsteps of great runners who have set records and established legends at a school. But one after another, the next one comes along and the tradition continues.

Scott Mackley, a senior from Kathleen High School, finished the mile with a personal record of 4:15 just beating out Micheal Rodriquez who ran 4:15.06. After the race Mackley layed down his and eyes slowing rolled in the back of his head.

There are some feature events at every meet. At this one, that event was actually multiplied by three, as Junior talents Rachel Gehret, on her home track, and Bradford\'s Erin Hannon, faced off in the three jumps that don\'t involve a pole. And there\'s a hot new sprinter on the line in Altoona, and he\'s just a freshman.

There\'s nothing like having all the work come together as you approach the final weeks of your high school career. It\'s happening for a lot of PA\'s best, and one of them is Chanel Williams of Plymouth-Whitemarsh. On Wednesday 5/4 at the annual Colonial Classic on her home trackl...

Only in its third year of existence, the VMI Classic has quickly emerged as one of the higher quality high school meets in the state of Virginia. At Virginia Military Institute\'s Read Stadium on Saturday, five state leading performances with recorded with Bassett\'s Brandon Dillard (100m dash, 10.72), E.C. Glass\' Carlton Phipps (800m run, 1:54.38), Lafayette\'s Dakari Taylor-Watson (triple jump, 47-9), Northside\'s Catherine White (3200m run, 10:51.92), and Halifax County\'s Shemelia Brandon (triple jump, 39-10.50) to highlight a meet with many great times and marks posted.

The Gar-Field Invitational saw a two school battle for the team titles between Westfield and meet host Gar-Field on both the boys and girls side. The Westfield girls took home the first place hardware with a 108 point team total compared to the Gar-Field girls with 67 points, while the Gar-Field boys (82 pts) were team champions by 27 points over Westfield (55 pts). Potomac Senior\'s Fallon Hutcherson and Westfield\'s Karen Woolley won two events a piece at Gar-Field as Hutcherson won the 200 (25.06) and 400 (57.51) meter dashes, while Woolley dominated the hurdles in winning the 110 (15.12) and 300 (44.83) meter hurdles.

The ladies from Redan finished with a flourish to take the team title at the Georgia Girls state meet. Aleesha Barber led the way with two 1st place finishes in the 100 and 300m Hurdles. McEachern edged out Collins Hill for the runner up trophy but the day belonged to Redan and the Lady Raiders as they won in convincing fashion!

Eight photo galleries of the May 6 West Central Coaches Meet @ Mansion Park, Altoona

The Richmond track and field squad finished its season with a fourth and fifth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Richmond, Va. The Spiders, who hosted the event at Sports Backers Stadium, placed a total of 13 individuals on the All-Conference first and second teams including nine individual performances and a relay team.

The girls state meet is over now and in looking back, it\'s been an amazing year of track and field in Georgia. Here are just a few of my thoughts from the state meet.

On the girls side... Swanagan and Parrish set state meet records., Doyley doubles. For the boys... Mackley outkicks Rodriguez by .06 in 1600, Fowler takes hurdle titles, Scelzi 15-0 vault, Ft. Lauderdale 4x8 7:51. Much much more. Full results posted.

Sam Luff was thrilled to be home. Sure, it had a lot to do with being around friends, sleeping in his own bed, and competing at tracks that were within driving distance of Emmaus. But actually, it had more to do with the air. He could breathe while running.

Freshman Emily Reese broke the women\'s record in the 3200 with a blazing 3200m at the state meet on Thursday. Going out in 5:12 for the first 1600, Emily wore down former state champion Shelly Taylor to caputre her first track title in impressive fashion!
