1A State Championship Recap May 21, 2013

The 1A State Track and Field Championships provided great entertainment over the weekend as Panguitch won both the Boys and Girls state titles. The girls of Panguitch won, scoring 125 points over Wayne, who scored 91.5, and Monticello with 74. A key to Panguitch's dominance was Freshman Whitney Orton, who single handedly added 36 points to the cause, winning three events.  Panguitch also won the boys competition, though not as comfortably as they may have anticipated. Rich put in a pretty good fight, keeping coaches counting points late in the day, but in the end Panguitch pulled away. They scored 107 points with Rich close behind in 94 points.

2A State Championship Recap May 20, 2013

The 2a State Championship had two very different story lines in the girls competition and the boys competition. The boys team competition was the Richfield show as they dominated the meet winning by over 100 points over North Summit with 70.5 points and Emery with 44.5. Capping off the team title, Richfield pulled out a very exciting win in the Boys 4x400m relay.

3A State Championship Recap May 19, 2013

On a very rainy Saturday morning the final day of the 2013 UHSAA state track championships kicked off with the 3A Girls on the track for the 3200. After the race Park City team members could be seen calculating exactly what needed to happen for the Miners to secure a team title. Whatever those calculations were, they were spot on as the Miners won the state championship with 93 points over Cedar High School who grabbed 76 points.  Megan Glasmann was one big keys to Park City’s success as she won the Javelin and grabbed second in the Discus.

4A State Championship Recap May 19, 2013

The Utah State Track and Field Championships concluded this afternoon on a rainy day in Provo. Woods Cross High School won the boys 4A team title in the final event of the day. The Wildcats, scoring 85 points, beat out Herriman who scored 79 points. The Girls team title went to Herriman on the backs of great performances by their underclassmen Kaysha Love and Lucy Biles. The individual events were exciting as well. Here is our event-by-event breakdown of the action.

5A State Championship Recap May 18, 2013

The Utah High School State Track and Field Championships concluded today in Provo. It was an exciting day of competition in every classification. The weather was bi-polar as it was pouring rain one minute and sunny and hot the next. The athletes seemed more focused on winning a state championship than they were about the weather. The team titles on both the Girls and Boys side went to Davis High School as the Darts made it a three-peat.  The individual events were exciting as well. Here is our event-by-event breakdown of the action.

State Track Day 1: 1600m Finals Excite as State Records Fall May 17, 2013

Provo, Utah- Day one of the 2013 Utah State Track and Field Championships took place today at the Robison Track Complex in Provo.  The competitors got to deal with blustery conditions and scattered showers on the day as a storm moved through the valley. Most events had preliminary rounds today to qualify for tomorrows finals, but the two finals on the track today provided plenty of excitement for everyone in attendance. On the track first was the 1600m Run, where 10 state champions were crowned, 5 in the Boys and 5 in girls.

2013 Utah State Championship: 2a Girls Preview May 17, 2013

The 2a Girls State Championship is going to be a very exciting one to watch. North Summit Holds the edge in the rankings, but they are close enough that when considering prelims and rounds and the potential for false starts or a dropped baton, any thing can happen and Richfield is very capable of an upset.

2013 Utah State Championship: 2a Boys Preview May 16, 2013

The Richfield Boys look very tough this season as they look to win another state championship this weekend on the track. In the virtual meet we ran on the competition, Richfield came out over 100 points ahead of the closest competitor, North Summit. If there is one thing that is great about track and field is no meet is won on paper, and your personal bests don’t get you anywhere if you don’t bring it on race day. That being said, Richfield would have to see a pretty big meltdown before an upset became a likely possibility.

2013 Utah State Championship: 1a Boys Preview May 16, 2013

The 1a Boys competition looks to be as close as any on the day, with no clear leader in the meet, Layton Christian, Panguitch, and Rich all have the tools needed to bring glory back to their schools.

2013 Utah State Championship: 3a Girls Preview May 16, 2013

The 3A girl’s team title is favored to go to the red and white clad harriers from Park City. They have potential to pull down big points in several events, especially distance and javelin. Ogden also looks to its depth in distance to mount a potential challenge. In addition to an exciting team race, the 3A girl’s state meet also holds several interesting story lines about individual races.

2013 Utah State Championship: 3a Boys Preview May 16, 2013

The 3A state meet poses some very interesting match-ups. While the longer races have a clear cut favorite, the sprints and field events look to come down to the wire. If everyone runs to seed Desert Hills look to be the favorite in the boys race. They look strong across the board; look for them to grab points in a wide variety of events

2013 Utah State Championship: 1a Girls Preview May 16, 2013

The Girls 1a state championship looks to be a great competition. With Panguitch favored, if only their individuals can live up their rankings. Whitney Orton and Catania Holman look to contribute big points for Panguitch as well as Chesney Campbell. Layton Christian has some very talented athletes as well as Wayne which could make it a great three way battle for the team title.

2013 Utah State Championship: 4a Boys Preview May 16, 2013

Woods Cross is the heavy favorite for the state meet this weekend. With their power and depth in the sprinting events, it doesn’t appear anyone will be anywhere near them.  Derek Lord, Sean Barton, Jacopo Spano and Cam Dopp lead this sprint corps and should lead them back home with a state championship trophy. The race seems to really be for second place. Herriman has a lot of quality athletes that should be able to score a lot of points and potentially grab that second place trophy.

2013 Utah State Championship: 4a Girls Preview May 16, 2013

Herriman and Orem look to be the favorites heading into the state meet this weekend. While Herriman will rely on Freshman Kayla Love and sophomore Lucy Biles to score big points, Orem will try to match those points with its depth, led by Summer Harper.

2013 Utah State Championship: 5A Girls Preview May 16, 2013
