9/13 High School XC Weekend Recap

Michigan State Spartan Invitational (MI)

September 12, 2014 Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, MI

After a not so fulfilling finish to her junior year of cross country last fall, Audrey Belf had a stellar track season including a 10:10 (2 mile PR) and a 4:45 (mile PR) getting 5th at the Dream Mile. Coming off of that great track season, Belf has shown her dominance in this young season.  She captured another win on Friday with a 17:32 performance and was happily greeted by her teammate just over 20 seconds later as Rachel Dadamio (17:54) of Birmingham Seaholm finished the 1-2 punch. The US #17 Birmingham Seaholm girls took home the team victory by a margin of more than 80 points on a big stage to affirm themselves as a legit national class squad.

But it wasn't just the girls who turned heads. On the guys side, 3 of the top 10 5K times nationally were posted including Royal Oak (MI) senior Ben Hill who took the crown in a personal best time of 15:06. Hill had to battle to the end with Jesse Harsha of Concord who likewise had a breakthough PR race in second place at 15:07. Both finished ahead of and pulled away from 2013 Foot Locker finalist Ryan Robinson (15:12), who rounded out the top three, but also led the Waterford Mott boys to the team title who nearly averaged under 16 minutes as a group on the Michigan State University home course.
