Defending Washington state champion and top Nike Cross Nationals individual returnee Tanner Anderson bolted out to a 14:55 3 mile in his XC season opener and more impressively did it without competition as there no Anderson-John Dressel showdown as hoped for with the 2013 Foot Locker Nationals runner-up Dressel out due to ACT testing. Anderson's time was 5 seconds faster than the 2013 win in the same race by Dressel.

The Mountain View boys (125 pts) of Idaho pulled off a massive upset in defeating both US top 10 ranked squads from Washington in North Central (2nd, 146 pts) and Kamiakin (3rd, 157 pts), but the meet was scored through 10 runners. Kamiakin would have been the team winners if scored through 5 runners putting their top 4 among the top 10 places and all under 16 minutes including race runner-up Andrew Snyder at 15:13.

However, Mountain View now has to become a real team to consider as a potential NXN qualifier out of the Northwest Region and certainly US top 25 if not top 10 consideration after beating two preseason top 10 ranked teams. Their team has superior depth as shown scoring through 10 runners, but also had a better fifth runner and much tighter pack for their top 5 at 23 seconds than the two top Washington programs.
