11/1 High School XC Weekend Recap



Highlights, coverage, and results from the top meets across the country on the weekend of November 1st. Check back all weekend long with updates on the top national performances in high school cross country.

  • Connecticut State Open (CT) - US #2 Alex Ostberg wins his very first Connecticut State open title in 14:58 course record! US #2 Hannah Debalsi repeats with ease in 17:58. Danbury boys rebound from division loss for team title, while Tolland girls continue dominant run. (On-Site Coverage)

  • Idaho State Championships (ID) - US #9 Elijah Armstrong wins in his first state XC meet with a 15:25 performance in the 4A race, which bests his previous all-time best on course by 9 seconds. Mountain View boys and Couer d'Alene girls are ready for make a NXN nationals push after their Idaho 5A state title victories. Fastest girls time of the day belongs to Emily Hamlin of Boise Senior, who rolled a 18:14 win in 5A.

  • Indiana State Championships (IN) - US #4 Anna Rohrer breaks her own state meet record two years later with a swift 17:09 season best 5K performances in Terre Haute. US #24 Ben Veatch holds off Zack Snider in a thriller for the boys title with both timed at 15:09. The US #3 Carmel girls crush the field, while the US #23 West Lafayette boys keep the US #22 Carmel boys from completing a program sweep.  (On-Site Coverage)
  • Iowa State Championships (IA) - Thomas Pollard finally got that elusive state cross country state title. After two runner-up finishes last two falls in Iowa, the US #19 ranked Pollard picked up his first title decisively with his season best 5K time of 15:04 putting him 20 seconds ahead of the next fastest time of the day in 4A champ Daniel Soto and over a minute ahead of closest competitor in 3A race. The Linn-Mar boys and Johnston girls had the best team performances of the meet.  
  • Kansas State Championships (KS) - Stuart McNutt broke the state meet record with his 15:24 win. St. Thomas Aquinas girls crush the 5A race, while 6A champ Emily Venters with 14:52 4K has fastest time of the day.  (On-Site Coverage)

  • Michigan State Championships (MN)US #1 Grant Fisher repeats as Michigan state champ with a time 21 seconds faster than a year ago at 14:52. The Rockford boys come out on top in a very close D1 team title with only 8 points separating top 3 teams and teams averaging just over 16 minutes each. US #7 Audrey Belf and US #17 Birmingham Seaholm girls romp the D1 field with Belf winning in 17:19 and followed not too far behind by teammate Rachel Dadamio putting 27 points between them and Traverse City Central.  (On-Site Coverage)
  • Minnesota State Championships (MN) - Wayzata boys and girls sweep team titles for second straight year at Minnesota State meet. The Wayzata boys put 3 in the top 10 including race champ Connor Olson (15:17), while the Wayzata girls packed it up with a 14:37 team average (4K) and 49 second spread for their top 5. The Hasz twins of Alexandria Jefferson go 1-2 in 13:40 for champion Megan and 13:44 for runner-up Bethany.
  • New Hampshire Meet of Champions (NH) 
  • New York Section Championships (NY) - National powerhouse team clashes all week with US #1 F-M boys over US #5 Liverpool in Section 3, US #13 Corning girls over US #14 Elmira in Section 4, US #16 Saratoga Springs girls over US #18 Shenendehowa in Section 2. (On-Site Coverage)
  • North Carolina State Championships (NC) - The US #23 Green Hope girls tallied a low score of 45 points to win the 4A title led by race champion Elly Henes (18:02). The US #20 Broughton boys got a bit more contested of a race from South View and others, but still won with score of 52 points and paced by individual champ Jeremy Brown (15:50). Fastest time of the day belonged to Tanis Baldwin of East Henderson, who blazed a 15:25 clocking in 3A race. (On-Site Coverage)
  • Ohio State Championships (OH) - The top girls times of the day came from the smaller classifications with D3 race's top 3 of Sarah Kanney (18:00), Brittany Atkinson (18:05), and Athena Welsh (18:07). Michael Vitucci of St. Xavier won the D1 boys race with the leading time of the day at 15:34. The Centreville girls, led by race winner Lainey Studebaker (18:09) won the D1 girls state title with 18:45 team average fastest of the day. The Mason boys with a mere 35 second spread led by Nick Grismer (15:49) won the D1 title and also came ahead in the results merge. (On-Site Coverage)
  • Oklahoma State Championships (OK)
  • Oregon State Championships (OR) - US #4 Matthew Maton took down Galen Rupp's state meet record by 10 seconds with a lifetime best 5K of 14:45 in the 5A race!  The team performance behind him from the US #9 Summit boys was equally as impressive as they put all 5 guys under 16 minutes for a 15:36 average! The memorable day continued for the Summit progam with their girls picking up a state title as well with 4 runners under 19 minutes. US #22 Ella Donaghu's 17:51 in repeating as 6A state champ stood as the top time of the meet by 18 seconds.   (On-Site Coverage)
  • Pennsylvania State Championships (PA) - US #17 Brianna Schwartz won the AAA girls race with the 2nd fastest time ever at Hershey Park behind only last year's Foot Locker Nationals champ Tessa Barrett with her 17:39 performance. The US #10 ranked Pennsbury girls regained their state title lost a year ago to US #21 Unionville by narrow 5 point margin. Jake Brophy of Central Bucks East runs out of his mind and breaks the Poop-out Hill course record in Hershey, PA. (On-Site Coverage). 
  • Rhode Island State Championships (RI) 
  • Tennessee State Championships (RI) - The Daniel Boone boys, led by two of the top three individuals of the meet in Adam Barnard (15:43) and James Garst (15:51), were able to withstand the challenge from last year's NXN top 3 team Brentwood and win the Tennessee state team title 47-50. The Morristown-West girls continue to race like a team that should be nationally ranked and challenge for national berth as they were well over 100 points better than the next best team in their state led by Cherie Wilson, who was the fastest individual champ of the meet at 18:30.

  • Wisconsin State Championships (WI) - Off of Olin Hacker's demanding 36 second victory and repeat individual state title, the boys of Madison West take the Division 1 team crown.
